Mike Walters recognized for dedication to advancing propane industry safety and training

CLEVELAND (June 12, 2018) — Superior Energy Systems is pleased to announce that Mike Walters, vice president of safety and training, has been awarded the National Propane Gas Association’s (NPGA) coveted Individual Safety Award.

The award was presented June 4 during the NPGA board meeting and annual Propane Days lobbying event. Mike joins nine other award recipients, named over the past 21 years. NPGA’s Technical Standards and Safety committee chooses recipients based on their experience, accomplishments and commitment to serving the propane industry, specifically in safety and training.

“No one is more deserving of this award,” said Don Fernald, president and CEO of Superior Energy Systems. “Mike’s endless determination and dedication to the propane industry, particularly in safety and training, has benefited not only Superior, but countless additional industry employees. He is a true asset to all of us.”

A member of the propane industry for 40 years, with more than 25 years as a safety professional, Mike’s educational background includes the New York State Academy of Fire Science, Syracuse University and Columbia Southern University. He is certified in Environmental Compliance and Accident Investigation from Columbia Southern University, as well as several certification areas of NPGA’s Certified Employee Training Program.

Mike is a former chairman of the Propane Education and Research Council’s (PERC) Safety and Training Advisory Committee and currently serves as vice chairman of the NPGA Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) Certification Committee. He is a member of an industry trade magazine editorial review board and is considered a subject matter expert in the development of safety and training programs within the propane industry.
