Since 2012, propane autogas school bus registrations have increased by 676 percent
WASHINGTON (May 1, 2018) — New propane autogas school bus registrations for 2017 reached 2,430, pushing the total number of propane autogas school buses currently in operation at public and private school districts nationwide to the brink of 15,000, according to a report compiled by the Propane Education & Research Council using IHS Polk new vehicle registration data.
The new 2017 registrations continue a strong five-year stretch for propane autogas in the school transportation market. Since 2012, propane autogas school bus registrations have increased 676 percent. Almost 900,000 students are now transported to school each day in propane autogas school buses by 830 school districts and bus contractors.
“In 2017 alone, approximately 90 new school districts and bus contractors transitioned to propane autogas school buses for the first time, which signals to us that transportation directors are continuing to see the benefits of operating bus fleets powered by propane autogas,” said Michael Taylor, PERC director of autogas business development. “Propane autogas school buses offer a lower total cost-of-ownership, cleaner and quieter operation, and better maintenance experience than any other fuel, including gasoline.” To see the full release, click here.
