When comparing the in-use emissions levels between a 2014 model-year propane autogas bus and diesel school bus, a study funded by PERC and conducted by West Virginia University found that the autogas engine’s nitrous oxide emissions were between 93 and 97 percent less than the comparable diesel model. These numbers represent a larger disparity between the fuels than certification data indicates.
